Mexico City, April 23, 2026. — In October 2023, Hurricane Otis severely impacted the coasts of Guerrero, leaving deep effects on its communities. The education sector was among the hardest hit, with significant damage to school infrastructure.
Less than a year later, in September 2024, Hurricane John struck the region again, compounding the conditions and challenges facing recovery efforts for homes, streets, and schools; today, a different story is being written—one of reconstruction, resilience, and the power of collaboration.
The power of joining forces
“Multiplicando Alegrías” reflects what is possible when different organizations align around a shared purpose: generating real and sustainable impact.
The alliance brings together key stakeholders from the social and business sectors, including:
Fundación ARA, Fundación CAAAREM, Fundación Chedraui, Fundación Coca-Cola México, Fundación Compartamos, Fundación Diez Morodo, Fundación Familia Bocar, Fundación Gigante, Fundación Kaluz, Niños en Alegría, Fundación Posadas, Promotora Social México, Fundación Santander, and the Guerrero State Secretariat of Education.
The “Multiplicando Alegrías” alliance concludes a significant phase with the renovation of 19 public elementary schools—now fully operational—surpassing the initial target of 16 campuses. This effort began in 2023 with the assessment of damage and continued in 2024 with rehabilitation work, expanding thanks to a collective effort, synergy among partners, and a shared commitment to transforming education in the communities that need it most—turning these spaces into true hubs for connection and development, as well as vital community shelters during times of crisis.
These schools are part of the Teacher Training and Student Support programs—initiatives focused on strengthening teachers’ pedagogical tools through continuous professional development, with the aim of enhancing the impact on their students’ learning.
Complementarily, student support is fostered through Peace Circles—spaces designed to promote respect, tolerance, and orderly participation as fundamental pillars of school coexistence.
Through these programs, comprehensive efforts are made to ensure greater opportunities for children within safe, violence-free environments.
On April 22 and 23, representatives from the participating organizations visited seven of the schools where interventions had taken place, witnessing firsthand the impact of a collective effort that currently benefits 5,321 children, 308 teachers, and 28 administrators—figures that will continue to grow over time. In addition, this project has generated more than 50 local jobs and indirectly impacted 15,274 people in the communities.
More than infrastructure: spaces that transform lives
The actions implemented go beyond physical reconstruction. Each intervention was designed to restore dignity, safety, and functionality to the educational spaces, including:
- Construction and renovation of classrooms
- Rainwater harvesting systems
- Restroom upgrades
- Roofing repair
- Rehabilitation of electrical and hydraulic networks
- Waterproofing, painting, and structural modifications
These efforts not only foster better learning conditions but also strengthen the capacity of communities to face future challenges.
Schools that are once again the heart of the community
In many of these localities, schools represent the heart of community life: spaces for learning and social interaction, and—in times of emergency—places of shelter for the population.
Today, thanks to this partnership, these spaces are reclaiming their essential function: serving as safe, dignified places full of opportunities for thousands of children.
An impact that transcends generations
While this stage marks a conclusion, the impact of Multiplicando Alegrías is far from over. Every rehabilitated classroom, every reclaimed space, and every strengthened community not only benefits those who occupy these spaces today but also lays the foundation for the development of future generations.
The children learning in these schools today will be the ones who, in the future, continue to build stronger, more resilient, and better-prepared communities.
